Understanding the Times & Season We are Living in – Part 1

“He answered and said unto them, when it is evening, ye say, it will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?” Matthew 16:2, 3

“And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.” 1Chronicles 12:32

“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” Matthew 24:42-44

The import of seeking the understanding of the events of the last days and of the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ cannot be overemphasized, considering the amount of confusion that the devil has introduced into the topic through different kinds of false teachers. This he does to make the topic less interesting to Christian believers in order to prevent them from making necessary preparation for the return of their Master; The Lord Jesus Christ.

Over the past ages, nothing motivates Christian believers towards daily Holy living and aggressive evangelism than the consciousness of the closeness of the Return of Jesus Christ, which creates in them a sense of urgency in fulfilling the Master’s great commission. Unfortunately, in this 21st century, most Christians are not too keen discussing about the topic of the second coming of Jesus Christ..

The decay and lukewarmness in the Church of the last days can be traceable to the fact that majority are not expecting the coming of the Lord anytime soon. The secret of pure love and unity in the church that led to the revivals of the previous church ages was the tenacity with which Christians believed and preached about the urgency of the return of Christ. Since Christian believers lived their lives daily expecting the coming of The Lord, there was no need for anyone to be preoccupied with amassing wealth and worldly goods as it is common among the Christians of our generation. Instead, they shared what they had with one another and The Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved and not a bunch of mixed multitude or make believers as we have in our days – Acts 2:44-47. It is disheartening to realize that majority of the Christian believers of this last generation that will witness the return of Christ are less interested in talking about the return of Christ. This is nothing but satanic manipulation and attack on the church of Christ in order to prevent the final revival.
