An excerpt from “The Heavenly Home; When Shall I Prepare For My Own House Also?” By Pastor Olurinmade Solomon
As Christian believers, our hope is built on Jesus’ promise to prepare a place for us in heaven, after which he will return to take us home.
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14:1-3
Without this hope of a place in heaven, Christians would have been the most miserable people on earth, according to Apostle Paul.
“If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.” 1Corinthians 15:19
Jesus Christ has promised to prepare a place for us in heaven, but he never promised to prepare a house or mansion in heaven on a platter of gold. Once you give your life to Jesus Christ and your name is written in the book of life, a place where your heavenly mansion would be is immediately allotted to you, fulfilling Jesus’ promise. However, your responsibility is to provide the materials for your house or mansion building in your assigned place. What Jesus promised us is a place and not a house in heaven.
Before Jesus Christ made the promise in John 14:2-3, he had advised his disciples to lay up treasures in heaven (i.e., make provisions for their heavenly homes) in Matthew 6:19-21. However, none of them asked him for what purpose they were to lay up the treasures in heaven. Otherwise, he would have told them in plain terms.
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:19-21
Apart from our Salvation which has been fully paid for by Jesus Christ, nothing is free in God’s kingdom; whatever you sow is what you will reap.
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6:7-10
Jesus’ promise of a place in heaven is only for his disciples; those who have surrender their lives to him as their Lord and Saviour. Therefore, if you have not become a disciple of Christ, by accepting him as your Lord and your Saviour, you don’t have a place in heaven but in hell. However, if you accept Jesus Christ today and become his disciple, you will have a place in heaven and eternal life will be your portion.
Are you reading this book’s excerpt, and you are not yet born again? Then, you don’t have anything to do with God or heaven yet, not to talk about having a home in heaven. Therefore, you need to immediately surrender your life to Jesus Christ so you can also be qualified to prepare for the heavenly home.
“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:3, 16-18
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” John 1:12
Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven; there is no salvation in any other.
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
What must I do to be saved? If this is the question in your heart, read the following scriptures and pray the prayer below:
“Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:37-38
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9 &10
Pray as follows:
Lord Jesus Christ, I come before you as a sinner that I am. Please, forgive me all my sins. I confess you as my personal Lord and Saviour. I believe that you died on the Cross for the remission of my sins and you rose up on the 3rd day. I reject Satan and all his works. I enter into covenant with God by the blood of Jesus Christ from today. Lord Jesus Christ, please write my name in your book of Life. Thank you Jesus for saving my soul, in Jesus Christ’s name I pray.
Wow! I congratulate you on this glorious decision you have made today. I encourage you to make the word of God (Holy Bible) the standard for your life and make sure you abide in Christ through holiness and righteous living till the end. Also, find a Bible-believing church around you to identify yourself with the body of Christ and to learn more about the word of God.
